DESN 4123 - Social Media Strategies
Impulse/Intent?
Going “Online” with purpose or out of habit.
For our first assignment in the Social Media Strategies course, we need to analyze our social media use. I consider myself somewhat disciplined with social media, but I'm interested in how much I actually use it and how it relates to my daily activities and interactions. Therefore, I used the Screen Time feature on my Apple devices and tracked my own data to produce an infographic showing my weekly average and a case study of a typical school day when I have classes and work on campus.
Collected and analyzed data across…
14 Days,
3 Devices,
18 Apps/Platforms…
In the following areas:
Events of the day (including schedule and activities)
Triggers for pickups
For each social media app/platform:
usage time/screen time
pickups
amount and frequency of notifications received

Final Output and Thoughts:
My relationship with digital social networks has changed drastically as I become of age — from being highly active online during my early internet years to now prioritizing real-life interactions. This change, driven by increased offline responsibilities and burnouts, is reflected in my usage patterns. For example, my digital activity drops during in-person engagements. YouTube dominates my digital media consumption, often used passively when multitasking. Though my phone offers comfort in anxious moments, I try to keep its use purposeful, focused primarily on communication and information. Moving forward, I aim to limit distractions and protect my privacy, with my digital network continuing to support, not replace, real-life connections.
